Making an Appointment With Your Legislators:
A personal visit is the most effective way of communicating with your legislator. It provides you with the opportunity to "gauge" his/her reaction to your request for support. A personal visit also provides you with the opportunity to get acquainted, an experience that may prove helpful in future contacts as well.
You definitely should make an appointment in advance. State Senators will have a staffer who may ask how long you think you will need to discuss your issue. Remember the legislature will be in session on March 13th. You will be competing with others for your representative's time. Fifteen minutes is a reasonable amount of time especially since ADAC doesn't have a specific bill to educate him/her about at this time.
Alabama Representatives do not have paid staffers. So be persistent when you call for an appointment. A letter might be a more effective way of getting an appointment.
Even if you have an appointment you may have to wait, so leave some space between appointments. Generally staff aren't thrilled with drop-ins because they wreck the daily schedule but you can drop off material at the office for the senator or representative to read later.
